Step 1 in being a good pupil: Do you're homework
Step 2 in being a good pupil: Get good rest
Step 3 in being a good pupil: Be on time.
I did my homework, but I had a few beers last night and a tequila or two (the real ones), stayed up too late, got up too early, then in spite of being up early dawdled and got to the lesson late. Then as I sat ready to soak up all the knowledge that could be thrown at me I realised that my brain wasn't shifting into gear and that I was smidge worse off from the previous night (whilst I'd been feeling fine up to that point).
My homework items this week are,
The spider (many more weeks)
The scale positions and practicing major scales from each of the positions so that I can start to work more up and down the neck, not just across it.
Practice walking the octaves.
and take a peek at the triads.
Also in a convo about key changes I was curious about a combination of three major chords I've used and why they don't fit a major scale. Paraphrasing Liams response, he said I'd flattened the 6th which basically meant I was awesome (or at least that was how I chose to hear it :) ).
If you play a major scale with a flattened 6th that also sounds cool in the major scale, it's probalbly got a name and I look forward to being educated on that too.
My example was from the A major scale, and it was the F# flattened to an F, interesting that the F is in the minor scale.
The other interesting thing about a 6th is that the minor the chord in a major scale is the 1st not of a minor scale with that note as the 1st. (The sort of thing I'd known but completely forgotten).
When I learnt to touch type it was tricky to start with, but then one day it just clicked and I can basically type with my eyes closed. That ability for my hands to just communicate what I'm thinking without me having to worry about what each finger is doing etc is what I'm seeking.
It's sunny outside today so I hope you are enjoying yourself out there. Have a great day.
